The “Draft and Stash Report” is published every Thursday to give fans a look into the drafted players that the Celtics currently have playing in other leagues. Boston currently holds the draft rights to Abdel Nader, Marcus Thornton, Guerschon Yabusele and Ante Zizic. Last week’s “Draft and Stash Report” can be found here.
Abdel Nader//Maine Red Claws (NBA D-League)//2016 2nd Round (58th overall)
Nader only appeared in one of two games over the weekend against the Greensboro Swarm, who played in Maine on both Friday and Saturday night. He scored 19 points on 7-for-15 shooting in what was a one point loss in the first meeting while also grabbing six rebounds and blocking two shots. The Red Claws signed four year NBA vet Ryan Kelly and it was pretty obvious that he was their best player when he joined the team for these games, so it will be interesting to see if Nader’s scoring average of 22.6 PPG – a team high – does slowly start to dip. He did turn the ball over four times in his one appearance, which is slightly below his season average of 4.1 turnovers per game. People who check in to this post weekly know that’s important to bring up because that 4.1 mark leads the league and turnovers are what could keep him out of the NBA all together.
Marcus Thornton//Consultinvest VL Pesaro (Italy)//2015 2nd Round (45th overall)
It’s been a rough year and a half for Thornton as he’s played in a few leagues and it was just another rough game for him as VL Pesaro fell yet again. Thornton scored just four points off the bench on 2-for-9 shooting while adding two assists and two steals to the mix as well. He’s averaging 11.0 PPG through 17 games – which is third on the team – but the team is 5-12 and are just a game above last place right now in their league. Thornton is really starting to look like another Colton Iverson.
Guerschon Yabusele//Shanghai Sharks (China)//2016 1st Round (16th overall)
The Sharks have not played since we last checked in on them, so there isn’t much of an update here. They will return to the floor on Sunday and then they’ll play again on Tuesday. Shanghai is currently in first place despite their two game losing streak, so we should expect Yabusele to get some playoff action coming his way pretty soon. He’s currently second on the team with an average of 21.2 PPG and he’s leading the Sharks with 9.4 RPG.
Ante Zizic//Darussafka Dogus (Turkey)//2016 1st Round (23rd overall)
Zizic was coming off a monster week but his playing time was scaled back a bit in two losses over the past seven days as he played under 20 minutes in both games. He scored four points and grabbed four rebounds in the first appearance in 19 minutes to go along with seven points, a rebound and a block in 18 minutes his next time out. The Croatian center has been bouncing between the bench and starting lineup since joining the Dogus towards the end of December and the most encouraging thing is that he’s played really well when given the minutes. Darussafka has a very deep frontcourt – featuring former Celtics Semih Erden and Luke Harangody – so it is easy to sit a guy down for the night if he’s having a bad day.
